A man of few words, Kimi Raikkonen peels back several layers the personal onion in the his book, Kimi Raikkonen, The Unknown. During an early-Winter vacation I had the opportunity to read the book. I’ve always been intrigued by the Iceman and enjoyed learning a bit more about him.
The book chronicles his racing adventure from his early start running motocross, and as you’d expect, highlights the many different milestones in his racing career. Don’t you fret, there’s also plenty of shenanigan stories from his party years, but readers will also see the softer, family-man side of Kimi in the book. Kimi has changed during his tenure in Formula 1, but at the end of the day he still loves to race. And that’s what keeps him on the grid.
The book also reveals Kimi’s mechanical acumen and preference to take things into his own hands, that is of course when his team remembers to give him his steering wheel (and gloves). One of his more notable hands on tinkering moments was when he took it upon himself to fix the toilet on the team transporter, noting the toilet was similar to the one on his yacht. There aren’t many drivers on the grid today that would do that.
All in all Kimi Raikkonen, The Unknown, is a solid read for any Formula 1 enthusiast, particularly those with a peculiar intrigue with Kimi.
