After back-to-back stops in the United States and Mexico, Formula 1 now heads to one of the most historic and unpredictable circuits on the calendar: Interlagos.
Officially the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Interlagos has been hosting Formula 1 since the 1970s and has given us some truly unforgettable races over the years. It’s a short, fast, old-school circuit that packs a little bit of everything into just 2.7 miles — elevation changes, tricky cambers, the famous Senna S, a long uphill charge to the finish line and plenty of opportunities for drivers to go wheel-to-wheel.
And then there’s the weather.
Brazil has a habit of throwing another variable into the equation, and at Interlagos, a little rain can turn an already exciting race completely upside down. Strategy, Safety Cars and rapidly changing conditions have all played starring roles here before — which is a big reason why this race has produced so many memorable moments.
With São Paulo coming late in the season, every point is becoming increasingly important. By the time we leave Mexico City the week before, we’ll have an even clearer picture of what’s still up for grabs — and Interlagos has a long history of influencing, and even deciding, championships.
